In the summer of 2002, construction of the new UW-Platteville Greenhouse was completed. This 6,500 sq. ft. facility utilizes state-of-the-art technology to house plants for the ornamental horticulture program, biology department, and the soil and crop science program. Students that utilize the greenhouse facilities go on to qualify for careers in landscape horticulture, turf grass management, nursery operations, bedding plant production, greenhouse management, retail floral shops, horticulture therapy, seed production, education research, and plant inspection. In addition to student use, this facility also hosts local and national gardening events and clubs like the Grant County Master Gardeners.
Surrounding the newly built greenhouse facility will be 35,000 square feet of ornamental horticulture gardens. Beautifully arranged as an outside laboratory, these gardens serve both an aesthetic and education mission for the campus and surrounding community to enjoy.
